This is a simple camera modelled on the Hare '1882' camera and patented jointly by T. Scott and J.T. Chapman. Its novel feature is a double-slotted link connecting the baseboard and the back which allows the link to be longer and yet fold up into a small space allowing the camera body to be shallower. Advertisements emphasised that the camera was well-made, light, rigid and without extra movements or fittings. Chapman did not advertise the camera for many years, around 1889 it was replaced in advertisements by the British manufactured by Billcliff (introduced around 1887).

The camera was manufactured for Chapman by both J.L. Lane and Lejeune & Perken, both of London. Some of the workmanship, such as the rounded edges and the binding strip at the top of the body, is similar to cameras by Billcliff who possibly supplied patterns for the other manufacturers. Soon after the Scott was introduced Chapman and Billcliff tried to register a patent for a camera which was rejected or abandoned, possibly this was a replacement for the Scott and the forerunner of the British.
