The Popular was introduced four years after the Original Sanderson as a cheaper alternative.

In 1901 the Popular was fitted with the patented tallbody feature to prevent bellows sag obstructing the image. In late 1901 or 1902 further improvements included bolts to lock the front standard struts in the vertical position. By early 1903 a cross front movement was added. By this time the camera was known as the Regular Popular, it remained on sale for several more years. A tripod turntable was an optional extra.

The first example, shown above, has a large cut-out allowing the camera to fold with the lens and shutter in place, but a turntable is not fitted, this has left little support around the tripod socket.
