Lens:
Petzval type with slot for Waterhouse stops. Serial no. 8729 .

Shutter:
None.

Construction:
Mahogany, dovetail joints, brass binding. Red leather bellows with square corners.

Format:
7 ½" x 5" plates held in slides.

Focusing:
Bellows to 32". Single extension with worm screw movement to rear standard.

Attributes:
'Meagher' side support.

Movements:
Rise and cross front.

Notes:
Address on camera: W. W. Rouch. 180 Strand. London. (1863 - 1894).

With:
Focusing screen. Early pattern dark-slide. With two, quarter-plate reducing frames.

This is a horizontal format tailboard camera. The lens is too short to cover the whole format and would have been used with the quarter-plate reducing frames. The lens is marked Rouch but the initials are not W.W (either H or JJ), the serial number is also much too high for the period if it is in the same sequence as other Rouch lenses. No other Rouch is known, possibly the lens was made for them and badly engraved. The lens appears to be of the same period as the camera.
