Construction:
Spanish mahogany body, brass fittings, mauve, square cornered leather bellows. Dovetail joints.

Format:
10" x 12" plates held in double dark-slides.

Focusing:
Bellows. Single extension with worm screw focusing to rear standard.

Attributes:
Two tripod sockets. Hinged focusing screen. Provision for septum.

Movements:
Rising front, cross front.

The fielded panels in the base of this camera point to a date in the early 1880s or before. A cross front movement and very wide lens panel are provided allowing the single lens to be positioned for stereo work, there are slots for a septum.

Lewis Hiram Spicer was at 6 Garnault Place, Spafields, London from around 1853, listed as a cabinet maker and Daguerreotype manufacturer. Later William Spicer was at the same address. It is not clear if the Spicer Brothers, listed as photographic mount makers, at New Bridge Street in the 1880s are related.
