Early illustrations show a camera with a front of lens shutter later, c.1900, the shutter is behind the lens. The camera is marked 'Underwood's Patent', this could refer to the 1885 patent covering how a camera can be folded without removing the lens by cutting a circular hole in the baseboard. The patent also shows a turntable around the hole. The method of fixing the front standard to the focusing frame is as shown in Gandolfi's patent of 1891. This describes cutting away part of the front standard, a spring plate can be depressed into the cut-out, when released it springs out to engage a stud in the focusing rack. The camera is quite distinctive especially the fittings on the reversing back. The lens divides just in front of the diaphragm. Produced in half-plate and whole-plate sizes. Price for this model was £5.10.0.
