This is a Contaflex in name only, it lacks the build quality of other models with extensive use being made of plastic and cheaper materials. At £131 for a model fitted with a Tessar lens the camera was not cheap (a Contaflex BC cost £158). 126 cameras were mostly aimed at the lower end of the market, being the successors to the box camera of a generation earlier. The Contaflex 126, along with models from Rollei and Kodak, had features such as reflex viewing and metering found on high-end 35 mm cameras but were still aimed at the those new to photography who appreciated the easy film loading provided by the 126 cartridge and simplicity of use. The Contaflex had semi-automatic metering, only the shutter speed had to be set, and automatic sensing of the film speed (read from the film cartridge). The shutter speeds were limited, with no slow speeds or even a B setting being provided. The lens was fully removable and interchangeable with wide-angle and telephoto options. The camera was available in black or chrome finish.
