Image of Electrophot Model M-S

Meter Type:
Photoelectric.

Calibration:
Shutter speed: 1/1600 - 16s, 8 - 64 f.p.s. Aperture: f2 - f32 still, f1.9 - f32 cine.

Attributes:
Reflecting view-finder.
The needle moves over a scale showing apertures for two shutter speeds, 1/32, 1/25, corresponding to different cine film emulsions. The values on the scale are bunched at the low-light end of the dial making the meter difficult to read. The rear of the meter has tables for still use and for alternative cine speeds (f.p.s.).

With:
Case.

The first model of the Electrophot (the DH of 1931), arguably the first photo-electric light meter, used a selenium cell as a resistor and was powered by a battery. That model was replaced by the M-S, shown here, where the selenium cell itself provided the current. The casing of the M-S is the same as the earlier model.

Model M-S-A

Image of Electrophot Model M-S-A

Meter Type:
Photoelectric.

Calibration:
Shutter speed: 1/1600 - 16s, 8 - 64 f.p.s. Aperture: f2 - f32 still, f1.9 - f16 cine.

Attributes:
Reflecting view-finder.
Two scales are shown for still and cine, the values are bunched at the low-light end of the dial making the meter difficult to read. The needle moves over a dial which indicates the aperture to be used for a shutter speed of 1/25 when using Plenachrome or Verichrome film. Other apertures and speeds are shown on a table on the back of the meter. A similar table shows alternative settings for cine use.

With:
Case.

This is a later example of the Electrophot from the mid 1930s. The casing is considerably smaller than the M-S model.
