These were typically used prior to loading the plate in a dark-slide and before developing.

Changing bags were for loading and unloading dark-slides and for fixing problems in magazines etc. The more elaborate models had an eye-piece to look into the bag and a red fabric window to let in filtered light. Beresford were specialists in this area.
