Lens:
c. f16, 11" landscape lens, two element, single achromat. Washer stops. Serial no. 1712 .

Construction:
Spanish mahogany, dovetailed joints.

Format:
7" x 7" wet-collodion plates held in dark-slides.

Focusing:
Sliding box movement and rack and pinion movement on lens to c. 6'.

Notes:
Address on camera: 122 & 123 Newgate St. London. (1855 - 1857). Address on lens: 121, 122, 123 Newgate St. London, (1857 - 1866).

Focusing screen. One washer stop.

This is typical of Horne & Thornthwaite cameras of the period. The design is simple but well-made with dovetail joints. The focusing screen is labelled 'Outside' indicating the plain side of the ground glass screen. The inner box has to be pulled out to focus at infinity.
